Creative Definitions owners, Mike and Banj Claparols, have continually dedicated themselves to providing world-class Negrense products in the local market, and now strives to innovate and to open more opportunities for Negrense craftsmen. Its latest venture is a partnership with the Negros 9 weavers, a group of local weavers that come from a remote area in the mountains of Kabankalan, Negros Occidental. Established in 2012 by the Negros Nine Human Development Foundation, the group was formed with the intention to create a steady source of income and improve the community’s industry. There are now 6 women and 3 men who are full time weavers.
In 2016, the Negros 9 weavers partnered with the Creative Definitions owners to enhance its marketing and product development capabilities. The first step of the collaboration have already bore fruit wherein the weavers have started to use 100% Philippine cotton, instead of synthetic polyester, in their products such as scarves, shawls and blankets. Since then, the partnership undertook several activities to enhance product development (advanced weaving workshops) and marketing (launching of the INTERWEAVE brand and participation in trade fairs). In April 2018, the partnership is organizing a training workshop that will allow the weavers to do natural dyeing using indigenous plants. Future plans will include the purchase of wider hand looms and the development of an online store.
